Devote yourselves to the “Good Work”

In Titus 3, Paul is speaking to Titus who is pastoring and shepherding the people in Crete. He makes it clear….Keep doing the GOOD WORK that God has given you to do. He says it 3 different times. (vs 1-2, 7-9, 13-14)

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,  to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

So that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

See that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.

The first time Paul calls them to the “good work”, he says it’s in regards to Sin. When we do good work for God, and stay focused on His Purpose for our lives, it helps us to battle the sin that our flesh wants to do. In this case, not to speak evil of ANYONE (ugh…really anyone?….yes anyone!).

The second time he calls us to the “good work”, it’s in response to all that God has done for us. God has justified us through faith, to an inheritance and a living hope of eternal life!!! We always need to be reminded that we serve him in response to all he has done for us!

The third time he reminds them to do good work it’s because there is an urgent need. Can you see the harvest. Do you see the spiritual needs all around us?  God doesn’t want our lives to be fruitless, but fruitful!

I just want to thank everyone who give their lives for the “Good Work” by serving Jesus in their community and for those who partner with us at Abundant Life. Galatians 6:9 says “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

He has given us quite the work in the greater Birdsboro area, and we thank God again this morning for all those who are a part of our team! Let us again this morning devote ourselves to the Good Work God has called us to!
