History of Birdsboro
Birdsboro was named for ironmaker William Bird, who established a forge on Hay Creek around 1740. His son Marcus founded Hopewell Furnace in 1771, which was the largest domestic producer of iron by the time of the American Revolution. Both the Schuylkill Canal and the Reading Railroad allowed Birdsboro to become a thriving hub for the steal industry.
The borough was created in 1872, from sections of Union and Robeson townships. Its population increased slowly from 2,261 in 1890 to 5,064 in 2000. It still remains primarily a town of hard workers who love their community.
Our Part In History
Since Abundant Life Church moved into Birdsboro in 2010, we feel called to play a part in the spiritual restoration of this community. We strive to be active in our community in various ways. Some of these are by providing Bible centered programs for kids and youth, by reaching out to those in need with the message and hope of Jesus Christ, by actively praying for our community and its leaders, and by forming partnerships with our community leadership and other local churches. We whole heartedly believe that the community shouldn’t serve the church, but the church should serve the community. And when we do this with the compassion and love of Christ, we will see God’s transformation take place.
